The Gurong Pahinungod (GP) Program is an educational
development undertaking that
deploys UP graduates who serve as volunteer teachers for one school year (ten months) in
underserved public schools in remote and/or economically depressed communities. A collaborative
effort of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the University of the Philippines (UP),
through the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, GP was created through a three-year memorandum of agreement
that was signed in 1998 and renewed in 2001 and 2004.
Goal
The goal of the GP Program is to complement DepEd vision of
providing quality basic
education in underserved public schools, in support of UP's commitment to promote quality
education at all levels.
