Cebu is surging as a trade-and-service center, with
current developments transforming the rest of the province and the region. Cebu is also a
cultural center with its geography, language, patterns of economy, and history giving Cebuano
life consistency and difference. For its presence to be strongly felt by the community and
policymakers, UP Cebu College has to respond to the need for inputs for decision-making on
policies affecting the development of Cebu, the region and the country as a whole; it also
has to respond to the challenge of stressing the cultural dimension of any meaningful effort
towards self-reliance. UP Cebu College can do best by establishing the Central Visayas
Studies Center.
The Central Visayas Studies Center (CVSC) was instituted as part of the systemwide
network of regional studies program of the University of the Philippines. The institution of
the Center was approved by the Board of Regents in their 1131st meeting on May 27, 1999. CVSC
is seeded by the University Center for Integrative and Development Studies (CIDS).
Vision
The Central Visayas Studies Center envisions to be
the main resource center where the multi-disciplinary expertise of UPV Cebu College faculty
is tapped to provide a more holistic approach to understnading problems and issues affecting
the province and the region. The Center will concentrate on critical areas of policy, the
collection, exhibition and preservation of Central Visayas art forms and cultural
works.
